AdSafe Social

How to use AdSafe Social

AdSafe Social checks your clinic's Instagram and Facebook posts against Australian health advertising rules and suggests compliant wording. This guide walks through each part.

Getting started

  1. Go to adsafescan.com.au/social/login and enter your work email.
  2. We email you a six-digit code. Enter it to sign in. There is no password; codes expire after ten minutes.
  3. You land on your dashboard. A free account includes 3 full checks each month.
  4. To check without limits, choose Subscribe A$79/month on the dashboard and pay through Stripe. Your plan starts straight away.

You stay signed in on that browser for 30 days. Use Sign out at the top of the dashboard on a shared computer.

Checking a caption or ad

  1. On your dashboard, find Check a caption or ad.
  2. Paste or type the post you are about to publish, including its hashtags. At least 20 characters.
  3. Choose Instagram or Facebook, then select Check this post. Results take about fifteen seconds.
  4. If AdSafe suggests a rewrite, select Copy and paste it into Instagram or Facebook, or edit it first.

Pasting a caption into the box on the AdSafe home page brings it straight to this checker after you sign in.

Reading the results

Each check gives an overall risk rating, based only on the wording AdSafe could see:

  • Severe: clear prohibited wording, such as a guarantee or a clinical testimonial. Fix before posting.
  • High: strong evidence of a likely breach. Fix before posting.
  • Moderate: wording that could be read the wrong way. Worth tightening.
  • Low: no scored issues in the text checked. This does not certify the post.

Every finding shows the rule it relates to (for example S133(1)(e), encouraging unnecessary use), the exact words that raised it, a plain-English explanation and a suggested fix. Items marked for review are worth a second look but do not change the rating.

AdSafe checks words only. Check photos, before-and-after images and who the post is shown to yourself.

Monitoring Instagram and Facebook

This is rolling out as platform approvals complete. It appears on your dashboard when it reaches your account.

  1. On the dashboard, select Connect Facebook and Instagram and sign in to Facebook.
  2. Choose the Facebook Page you manage. An Instagram professional account linked to that Page comes with it. Your plan includes up to three accounts.
  3. Within ten minutes AdSafe checks your 25 most recent posts and their comments, then keeps checking new posts and comments.
  4. When something needs a look, we email you (at most once every 30 minutes). Open the post on your dashboard to see each finding.
  5. For a comment that reads as a testimonial, select Hide on Instagram or Hide on Facebook. It is hidden from the public and you can unhide it later. Choose Not a problem to dismiss it.

To fix a caption, edit it in the Instagram or Facebook app; AdSafe re-checks edited captions automatically. Use Disconnect next to an account to stop monitoring it; we delete its stored Facebook access at the same time. To bring it back, select Turn on (if you have room in your plan) and then Reconnect Facebook and Instagram. If Facebook access expires, we email you and the dashboard shows Reconnect.

Posting through AdSafe

This is rolling out as platform approvals complete. It appears on your dashboard when it reaches your account.

  1. On the dashboard, select Write a post.
  2. Write the caption (up to 2,200 characters) and add a photo. Instagram needs a photo; JPEG works best, between portrait 4:5 and landscape 1.91:1.
  3. Tick the accounts to post to, then choose Post now or Schedule with a date and time (up to 75 days ahead).
  4. AdSafe checks the caption before it posts. If the risk is high or severe it stops and shows the findings: use the suggested caption, or select I've reviewed this, post anyway.
  5. Scheduled posts appear on your dashboard with a Cancel button until they go out.

If the connection drops while posting, check the dashboard before trying again: AdSafe never posts the same post twice, and tells you if it is unsure.

The browser extension

This is rolling out as platform approvals complete. It appears on your dashboard when it reaches your account.

  1. Install AdSafe for Instagram and Facebook from the Chrome Web Store or Edge Add-ons.
  2. Click the AdSafe icon in your browser toolbar, then Connect to AdSafe, and select Connect the extension on the page that opens.
  3. Open the post box on instagram.com, facebook.com or Meta Business Suite. An AdSafe shield appears in its corner. Click it to check what you have typed.
  4. When you press Share or Post, AdSafe checks new wording first. If the risk is high it holds the post and shows the findings, with Replace caption with this or Post anyway.

The extension only reads the post box, only when you check or press Share. If a check cannot finish, your post is never blocked.

The AdSafe app for Canva

This is rolling out as platform approvals complete. It appears on your dashboard when it reaches your account.

  1. In a Canva design, open Apps and choose AdSafe.
  2. Select Get a code from AdSafe, sign in, select Create a code and copy it. Paste it into the panel and select Connect.
  3. Select a text box on your design, or everything, and choose Check with AdSafe. It checks text on the image too.
  4. With a single text box selected, Replace the selected text swaps in the compliant wording.

Devices and accounts

The browser extension and the Canva app connect with a device code you create from your dashboard. Each appears under Check where you type with the date it was last used. Select Disconnect to cut a device off straight away, for example if a staff member leaves.

Your subscription

AdSafe Social is A$79 a month, including GST, cancel any time. Select Manage subscription on your dashboard to update your card, download invoices or cancel. If you cancel, you keep access until the end of the month you have paid for.
